Apple is gearing up for its much-anticipated launch event next month, with speculations rife about the unveiling of a new iPad Air in two different display sizes. Accompanying this, there’s talk of fresh iPad Pro models possibly featuring cutting-edge OLED screens. Analysts have been abuzz with predictions and contradictions, adding to the suspense surrounding Apple’s forthcoming releases.
Initially, there were murmurs from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO and Co-Founder Ross Young, suggesting that the larger variant of the iPad Air might sport a Mini-LED screen sourced from surplus inventory meant for the iPad Pro. However, a recent twist, with Young now indicating that both the 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Air models are likely to stick to the tried-and-tested IPS LCD screens similiar to their predecessor, the 5th Gen iPad Air. This pivot in strategy, according to Young, is attributed to the considerable cost implications associated with upgrading the panels.
On the other hand, Young’s revelations don’t paint the full picture. In a separate post shared on a social media platform, he hints at a different angles for the 12.9-inch iPad Air. This time, he suggests that it could indeed inherit the Mini-LED display technology from the iPad Pro, potentially offering advantages such as lower power consumption. However, the absence of existing inventory for 10.9-inch Mini-LED panels points towards the likelihood of the smaller iPad Air retaining its LCD panel.
Adding to the secret plans, there were whispers about the next iteration of iPad Pro models transitioning to OLED displays have gained traction. This change would mark a significant shift, promising superior contrast ratios and other enhancements compared to LCD and Mini-LED technologies. The stage is set for Apple to unveil these highly anticipated gadgets at its upcoming ‘Let loose’ event scheduled for May 7.
In the midst of these speculations, another teasing desired detail emerges – the potential introduction of a new iPad later in the year, as clued by Young. While details remain hidden, it’s suggested that Apple might unveil this mystery model in the fourth quarter of 2024. The nature of this device – whether it will join the ranks of the iPad Pro or iPad Air – remains shrouded in mystery forever, but still another layer of anticipation to Apple’s product roadmap.
