Apple has launched the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro, a new accessory that could change how we view the iPad’s capabilities. Available for order immediately after the announcement, it will hit the stores on May 15th.
Priced at approximately ₹22,000 for the 11-inch model and ₹26,000 for the 13-inch model, this iPad Pro-exclusive keyboard comes in white and black to match the iPad Pro’s colors. It features a 14-key function row akin to MacBook keyboards, allowing users to adjust brightness, media playback, and volume.
The keyboard sports a “floating cantilever design” that adjusts the iPad’s angle while typing, similar to previous models. However, the standout feature is its larger glass trackpad with haptic feedback and aluminum palm rest, aiming to reach the feel of a MacBook keyboard.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, noted, “The entire experience feels just like using a MacBook.” The keyboard is compatible with the new iPad Pro models featuring the M4 chip, launched alongside the accessory.
The original Magic Keyboard for iPad received mixed reviews for its comfort, backlighting, and responsiveness but was criticized for its price, weight, and lack of certain keys. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pointed out its shortcomings, including a small trackpad and structural issues.
Gurman’s predictions ahead of the launch hinted at a larger trackpad and an aluminum top case for enhanced durability and aesthetics. These improvements, combined with Apple’s focus on the new Apple Pencil, suggest a more laptop-like experience with the upcoming iPad Pros.
